Mute a topic

Messages from muted topics do not show up in either All messages or Recent topics, nor do they generate notifications (including alert word notifications), unless you are mentioned. They also do not contribute to stream unread counts.

In the left sidebar, click on the stream that contains the topic you want to mute.
Hover over the topic in the left sidebar.
Click the ellipsis ().
Select Mute topic.

From the message recipient bar (alternate method)

Find a message belonging to the topic that you wish to mute.
Click on the to mute the topic.

Browse and unmute previously muted topics

Instructions for all platforms

Click on the gear () icon in the upper right corner of the web or desktop app.
Select Personal settings.
On the left, click Muted topics.

From there, you can review and unmute any muted topics.
