Change the stream description

This feature is only available to organization owners and administrators.

Streams descriptions are displayed when viewing the stream in the web and desktop apps, and can be used to explain the purpose of a stream and link to usage guidelines, resources, or related streams.

Stream descriptions support Zulip's standard Markdown formatting, with the exception that image previews are disabled.

  • Instructions for all platforms

  1. Click on the gear () icon in the upper right corner of the web or desktop app.

  2. Click Manage streams.

  3. Click All streams in the upper left.

  4. Select a stream.

  5. Select the General tab on the right.

  6. Click the pencil () to the right of the stream name. Enter a new description.

  7. Click Save changes.

Note: This sends an automated notification to the stream events topic in the modified stream.
